When may Eid al-Adha
fall in 2016 ? Eid al-Adha date in 2016 may fall from 10th to 12th September. According to
astronomical calculations, Islamic calendar and the Gregorian calendar.
Eid al-Adha or Bakar Eid is
a festival of sacrifice and commitment to Allah’s order. Globally celebrated by
the Muslim community to honor the Ibrahim’s sacrifice to Allah, Eid al-Adha also
marks the end of the Hajj (the annual Muslim pilgrimage to Mecca). On this holy
festival, Muslims sacrifice animals (usually goats, camels or sheep) wishing
their sacrifice to be appreciated and prayers to be answered by the almighty
Allah.
Eid al-Adha in Islamic calendar
always falls on the same day (the 10th day of Dhu al-Hijjah) every
year, and lasts for four days. Although in the Gregorian calendar, the date may
slightly vary from year to year, approximately drifting 11 days earlier every
year.
Since the Gregorian calendar is a
solar calendar, the date of Eid al-Adha varies from year to year. On the other
hand, the date remains the same on the Islamic calendar each year because it’s
a lunar calendar.
The date can also be affirmed
based on the astronomical calculations. Another widely accepted belief is that
the date of Eid al-Adha is when the
moon is sighted. So, the date may also vary from country to country, depending
on whether the moon has been sighted or not. Once the moon is sighted, Eid
al-Adah is celebrated the very next day. According to astronomical
calculations, Islamic calendar and the Gregorian calendar, Eid al-Adha date in 2016 may fall from 10th to 12th
September.
